The Two Orders
Per Hetq.am reporting on 5 June 2026, the court ordered one-month pre-trial detention for Armen Ashotyan. Per separate Hetq.am reporting in the same news cycle, the court ordered one-month pre-trial detention for Gagik Beglaryan. The two proceedings ran in parallel; the two outcomes landed within hours of each other on the same Friday evening.
OWL had already profiled both subjects in the Left Behind series: Ashotyan (LB-74, published earlier in the campaign window) on charges relating to the prior Brusov-State Linguistic University procurement and personnel cluster (the 'Brusov sweep' OWL covered as a single thematic unit); Beglaryan (LB-82) on the arrest reported earlier this week. The one-month detention orders convert investigative-stage holding into formal pre-trial regime.
The Brusov Ex-Rector
Per Azatutyun.am on the same Friday, the Special Investigative Service was simultaneously requesting custody for the former rector of Brusov University. The Brusov dossier -- which OWL has covered as a unit -- already encompasses Ashotyan (former Brusov deputy chair, Republican Party deputy chair) and a procurement-and-personnel cluster of associated figures.
If the court grants the SIS custody request for the ex-rector, the Brusov-orbit detention count rises to three sitting in pre-trial detention simultaneously. The pattern is consistent with the 13 cases / 40 suspects / 25 arrests figure OWL documented earlier this week as the closing-week prosecution baseline.
Closing-Week Sequencing
Three Republican-orbit pre-trial detention proceedings in the same Friday evening news cycle is operationally unusual. Court calendars do not typically batch like this by accident -- pre-trial detention hearings on serious charges are scheduled days in advance, and the simultaneous Friday scheduling is the kind of pattern that suggests procedural calendar selection rather than coincidence. The 36-hour proximity to the vote tightens the inference.
OWL is documenting the cluster as a unit because the political signal is the unit: in the closing 36 hours, the courts converted three Republican-orbit investigative holds into formal one-month detentions. Voters going to polls on 7 June are voting in a media environment where the senior opposition orbit is visibly under detention. Whether that environment was constructed by the calendar or by the cases themselves is the question the post-vote review will examine.
